MY NAME IS Micaela
I am an avid collector and an experienced curator with a good eye for refined work and exceptional value.
Trailing the world with vagabond parents around Europe and Asia came with multiple introductions to culture. My family regularly visited museums and art dealers where ideas of connoisseurship were sown (we collected antiques and loved fine art), and I decided early on that my life would be about art.
My gift is not art making, although I've had lessons in technique, process, and content. My gift is listening, then finding and communicating the unique quality of an artwork. As a curator, I make very good choices. It is a privilege to live with artwork and to learn from artists.
I have assembled and curated over 200 exhibitions of contemporary art and continue to interview artists, present talks, and take part in the discussion about collecting art and valuation. I have published catalogs, prepared appraisals, and established good relationships with artists, collectors and art world professionals. My experience, with primary and secondary market artworks, makes me a savvy negotiator.
I can curate independently and direct private art collections from initial acquisition to museum accession. I am experienced with charitable, insurance, and damage loss appraisals.
I am a strong supporter of the SFMOMA, FAMSF, and OMCA, a member in good standing of the Appraisers Association of America and ArtTable; and contribute shamelessly to social media. Based in San Francisco, California, I travel globally to meet clients and investigate/source artwork.
I have been an art professional since 1996.
