ALESSANDRO CASSON    STATEMENT

Resides:  Italy

Alessandro Casson envisions and designs his sculptures, and works with various master glassblowers and craftsmen (smiths, carpenters, glass cold workers) to execute them.  The glassblowers follow his meticulous instruction of creating vibrant canes of color with Murano glass, and under his guidance, assemble the hot glass to his design specification.  Carpenters create the tools with which the works are made, such as special benches and paddles to form the glass in its molten state (at over 2000° F).  When the hot glass is annealed, or slowly cooled to room temperature, glass cold workers engrave the hard glass surface, and imbue it with enriching texture to develop Casson's organic surfaces.

Casson's vision, using these collaborations, is to advance and nurture the art of glass sculpture by bringing together various artists, each with their own technical contribution, skill, and years of experience to create a wide range of artworks with the highest degree of workmanship.  Unlike antiquated, traditional Murano systems, where secrecy of techniques and methods of design were highly guarded, Casson believes that by sharing knowledge and techniques, the recognition and advancement of glass as an art medium will thrive into the 21st century and beyond.
