MICAELA CONTEMPORARY PROJECTS is pleased to bring to you KATHLEEN ELLIOT PRESENTS, a collaborative exhibition with seven of the most intriguing Contemporary Glass artists in America today.

Honoring the use of glass as a medium of expression for contemporary artists, with a nod to the 2015 Glass Art Society annual conference and 21st century technologies, artist
Kathleen Elliot and independent curator Micaëla van Zwoll invite you to an exhibition of Contemporary Glass sculpture by artists Amber Cowan, Laura Donefer + Jeff Mack, Jay Musler, Sibylle Peretti, and Clifford Rainey.

In seeking work that combines an ancient medium with contemporary technology, notions surfaced of Nature's shifting reality; harmony, humanity and nature; re-working, up-cycling, and bringing history to the present; as well as a sculptural marriage of tradition with 3-D printing. What seemed impossibly diverse, became a fusion of ideas and visual representations that, nevertheless, are a modern-day commentary on universal concerns that resonate with all of us.

The artists,
Amber Cowan, Laura Donefer + Jeff MackKathleen Elliot, Jay Musler, Sibylle Peretti, and Clifford Rainey, are academics and/or educators whose sculptural voices are the vanguard of present-generation 21st century artists who follow and seek their teachings. Their honorable and prestigious achievements include commissions for United States Embassies, California Arts Council Artist Fellowships, National Endowment of the Arts Crafts Fellowship Grants, Ontario Arts Council Grant, Canada Council Grant, as well as inclusion in the permanent collections of the Renwick Gallery of American Art, the Smithsonian Institution, American Craft Museum (New York), Corning Museum of Glass, Metropolitan Museum of Art (New York), M.H. de Young Museum (San Francisco), Oakland Museum of California, Museo del Vidrio (Monterrey, Mexico), Ulster Museum (Belfast, Northern Ireland), Victoria and Albert Museum (London), and Musée des Arts Décoratifs (Lausanne, Switzerland).

Contemporary Glass is a movement, and a group of work, by artists who transitioned from using glass for craft and functional purposes to that of concept and visual beauty. These artists elect to use a magical substance and fragile medium to create artwork of uncanny perceptual experience of pleasure and strength.
