In the Palm Series, I wanted to challenge the convention of color. To achieve this, I had to overcome myths such as, “the sky is blue, the grass is green.”
These paintings explore how the message changes through the manipulation of color. Unusual colors calling attention to the palm tree – an exotic and familiar image – a device, to surprise my audience, pleases me. Each painting becomes exciting, fresh, a new adventure in color and form. The palm tree is a positive image – an icon of paradise – a reminder that life is good.
