Elliot Collection

STATEMENT:

I work with a botanical vocabulary that currently feeds two bodies of work.  The first is a series of fairly representational botanical sculptures.  The second is a series of imaginary botanical forms.

This work holds great meaning for me, allowing me to explore and express ideas I have engaged most of my life – love of plant life, and philosophy and spirituality.

What is real? How does one know? By pursuing studies of philosophy and alternative spirituality, these two questions form the foundation of my work in Natural Botanicals and Imaginary Botanicals.

The series of Natural Botanicals celebrate the beauty of nature and its ability to lift us out of the commotion of everyday life. It's a reminder we belong to mysteries far greater.

Imaginary Botanicals is a series of work expressing interest in alternate realities, to entice viewers out of the confines of our realities, into a sense of wonder.

Using glass as an expressive sculptural medium, reality becomes a three-dimensional trompe l'oeil, where a brittle manufactured material takes on the appearance of something organic and pliant.
