Elliot Collection

STATEMENT:

I work with a botanical vocabulary that currently feeds two bodies of work.  The first is a series of fairly representational botanical sculptures.  The second is a series of imaginary botanical forms.

This work holds great meaning for me, allowing me to explore and express ideas I have engaged most of my life – love of plant life, and philosophy and spirituality.

All my artwork began with a love of botanical life, with a studio filled with jars of dried plant parts – twigs, buds, seed pods, leaves, lichen, etc., and a collection of bird nests. I love these objects. They are simple and complex, and always beautiful.

In 1998, I began a series of nests – of all sorts – flameworked glass, pate de verre, reed, metal, etc. As the work in the series develops, these objects, inspired by nature, bring joy and delight.
