COMPASS! A GROUP EXHIBITION FEATURING WORKS BY: ALAN DISPARTE, PETER FOUCAULT, SCOTT KIERNAN, JULIE LAZARUS, GERALDINE LOZANO, PARIS MANCINI, DAVID RUTH, TOBIAS TOVERA, TAYLOR VOGLAND-DREILING, and ANNE YALON (January 18 through February 29)

"Compass!" is a group exhibition referencing new directions in artwork by emerging artists at Micaëla Gallery. Featured artists include 2007 MFA graduates from the San Francisco Art Institute, offering a collection of work that, in varied manners, indicate landscape and the effect of place. "Compass!" is a body of classically rendered drawings, photographs, and paintings, and modern glass, mixed media and video sculpture. Additionally, the sculptural work of David Ruth, an established and respected San Francisco Bay Area artist, is included in this exhibition for his specific reference to the Antarctic landscape. Geraldine Lozano's installation is presented in Micaela Gallery 2. Lozano is a newly minted MFA graduate of the San Francisco Art Institute. Her work is based in the mediums of photography, video and installation. Lozano's work addresses issues of displacement and personal documentary. Because Lozano left her birthplace in Peru in her early adolescence, her work focuses on the temporality and fragility of place.
