SALON D’ÉTÉ
August 4 through September 30, 2005
Vernissage: Thursday, August 4, 2005, 6-10 pm
Salon d’été at Micaëla Gallery, 333 Hayes Street in San Francisco, pays homage to the fine art salons of Paris. Presenting a sample of recent artworks in a single exhibition, the salon d’été is similar to the Parisian art salons aimed at introducing the public to stimulating artistic and intellectual energy. “I have thought, for sometime, about organizing a summer exhibition of contemporary artists. I hope this initial exhibition will provide energy, interest and direction to these participating artists and to the art public who may respond,” states curator Jerry Emanuel.
Emanuel’s salon d’été borrows classical concepts to exhibit contemporary art in an intimate presentation, with genres from painting, sculpture, glass, and printmaking. He juxtaposes cast glass next to soft, sinister sculptures, and places an oversized bottle glowing with undulating plasma with brilliant paintings and minimalist assemblage - all selections made with one purpose - to invite discussion, and showcase his vision of contemporary art.
Emanuel selected twenty-six artists in homage to fine art salons of 19th and 20th century Paris. Mostly residents of the San Francisco Bay Area, the artists include a diversity spanning the globe from Germany, France, Denmark, Nigeria and Japan, among others.
The salon d’été opens August 4 and continues through the end of September. Micaëla Gallery will host a vernissage (artists’ reception) on Thursday, August 4, 2005 from 6 to 10 pm, where refreshments and compelling dialogue will be in large supply.
Please join us with exhibiting artists on August 4 for SALON D’ÉTÉ.
