Portfolio Review at micaëla gallery:

We love looking at new art and constantly review work from prospective artists.

If you think you might be interested in submitting your work for review, please spend some time looking through this site to get a sense of the work we carry.  We strongly encourage you to visit Micaëla Gallery to determine if it would be a desired venue to exhibit your work.

Here is some other important information to keep in mind while deciding whether to submit your portfolio:

Micaëla Gallery specializes in modern paintings and glass sculptures.  We also represent works by fine artists in video, sculpture,  print media (etchings, lithographs, mezzotint, silver-gelatin photographs and digitally enhanced images) and drawings.

If you decide to submit your work for review, here is the procedure:

1. Submit your work by postal mail or in person only.  Please do not email any visuals, they will be deleted from the email account.

2.  Slides or original artwork are reviewed by appointment only.  When submitting slides, please bring a sample of 12-20 slides/images of available work. Each image must labeled with your name and the details of the work (size, medium, year, price). We accept photographs in lieu of slides - your photographs should be of impeccable quality since our initial judgment of your work will be based upon whatever we see in your portfolio. (If we accept your work for display at Micaëla Gallery, you will need to provide a professional quality image for each work we consign.)  We will accept digital images of your work on CD-ROM.

Please do not send original slides and please do not include any original artwork.  Micaëla Gallery does not take responsibility for any materials.

3. Include a resume/biography (include all exhibitions - solo/group/museum - relevant press information, reviews, etc.), cover letter, and statement about your art. Please include galleries that represent your work and catalogues of previous exhibitions.

4.  Include a self-addressed stamped envelope (SASE) for the return of your materials (Note:  if there is no SASE included, Micaela Gallery does not take responsibility for shipping any submissions back to the artist.  After 1 month, unclaimed packages will be discarded.).

Artists' submissions will be reviewed by a committee, not by one person.  Please address your submissions to:  Submissions Committee.

5. The gallery committee will review the portfolio and answer in writing, within 6-8 weeks from the date of submission.

Work is assessed for quality, originality, and potential to enhance the collection exhibited by the gallery. Our artists vary widely in terms of age, education and experience. Some Micaëla Gallery artists have MFA degrees, others are self-taught. We strongly prefer to represent artists who have had exhibitions in several different venues and received critical acclaim for their work; but many of our artists are showing in a gallery for the very first time.

If your work is selected for further review, we will arrange an appointment with you to see the originals.

Micaëla Gallery is a privately owned, commercial gallery showing the work of local and international emerging and mid-career artists. Most of our artists reside within the San Francisco Bay Area although we are collecting work from artists residing throughout the United States, Europe and Asia as well.

Micaëla Gallery is committed to showing original, high quality fine art for our clients to enjoy. Micaëla Gallery receives a 50% commission for all sold or rented work.

If you have additional questions about portfolio review, please write to us at info@micaela.com or call 415.551.8118 and we will be happy to assist you.

Until then, we look forward to hearing from you, with our very warmest regards,

Micaëla Gallery
