Philip Alden Benn
Philip Alden Benn taught at Pratt and School of Visual Arts while pursuing a career as a commercial and television production artist. In 1999, he founded the artist collective, Atmospherex, which would perform visuals and release several music visual DVDs with the work of Brooklyn and Manhattan burgeoning video artists, set to DJ mixed sets of underground house music.
In 2003, Philip and several members of the Atmospherex collective were enlisted to construct a 360 degree music visual show for the Hayden Planetarium. After completing this work, Philip moved to California to work as a visual fx artist on Hollywood films.
He entered the MFA program at San Francisco Art Institute where he would put his production skills to work with conceptual art and receive his graduate degree.
Aqua Pura is a photographic series. The photos were taken in the Summer of 2012 at Yellowstone National Park. Unlike some of the other photos of natural environments which I mediate by shifting colors, the colors in these images are presented as they actually exist.

Cluster City Print
Cluster City is a single channel video piece. It is one of several works I have made or considered making that are based on divergent conceptions of the urban framework. For this piece, the cluster defines a cellular form from which the molecular members reside in a state of transit, somewhere between almost still and qualitatively frenetic.

Corpus Terrarium
A single channel video work made with a similar particle-based imaging-process originally developed for the Geologic work. The site of the image is high in the Utah desert in Arches National Park, I took the photograph on an expedition with my father in June 2011.

Video still from Geologic: Form 1
Geologic is a 3 channel video piece which I started in graduate school and finished when I had the patience and time to render the work in HD. The photographs of rock formations slowly dissolve into nothingness and then the process is reversed.

Video still from Hydrologic: Creek
Hydrologic is a multi-channel video work that consists of four videos. The subtle variations of form adopted by water are visually expounded upon with a re-imaging framework I developed which reinterprets the original footage in a process of three-dimensional pointilization.
