Craving Culture? Art History at SF Museums now
We develop visual aesthetics on a deeply subconscious level, often unaware of the images and concepts that attract us. For this reason, some of us love drawing while others are captivated by sculpture. And then there is new media, video and painting...with it's many many interpretations (expression, etc.).
The exhibition at the Legion of Honor featuring Matisse from the SFMOMA, the collection of works by Matisse is exceptional (through September 7). Concurrent, Intimate Impressionism the exhibition of works on loan from the National Gallery, ends on August 3. Progressing on to the next movement, the Modernism from the National Gallery of Art: The Robert & Jane Meyerhoff Collection exhibition at the de Young is fresh, beautifully presented, and just plain great. And, last week, we featured a short image story of some of the work we liked at Gorgeous at the Asian Art Museum, where contemporary fine art is beautifully tied in with ancient craft and design at the Asian, don't miss it (through September 14).
And yes, if you haven't yet seen any of these exhibitions and want a quick primer on art history, that is the order we recommend!
